the grand tour 2018

SARA & BRIAN TOUR EUROPE

Really rural breakfast with coffee in literally a soup bowl, about a litre of the stuff, and big chunks of sausage and quiche.

Nice motorway drive down towards what we realised was the amazing Norman Foster bridge at Millau.  Stopped off to admire the bridge and see the exhibits and then on the road again.  Stunning rolling roads with sharp curves and deeply disturbing reverse camber at 90 miles an hour, great driving in the BMW.  It is made for this. A true Grand Tourer.

Called Jan & Gary to hear that Jan was still a bit under the weather so we decided to take a detour to visit the village of Roquefort and see (and eat) the cheese.

Spot of lunch in Roquefort (at the only restaurant open in a top tourist resort.  Eating in France in the early season is definitely a risky business, you could definitely starve),  No Roquefort related dishes on the menu, must be sick of the stuff!!

Then a tour of the Cheese Caves.  All in French, no prob, we had two pages of English translation.  That did NOT do service to the 100,000 words our guide used in the two hour trudge through cold wet tunnels of racks that could accommodate 100,000 rolls of cheese - except there was NO cheese.  Not a roll to be seen.  Nil Fromage!!  ????   It was like a John Brice beer tasting, really weird.  But it kept us out of the rain.

Got to Jan & Gary in the early evening.  Settled in and then out in the village for a nice local repast and bed.
